Goodbye American Samoa & Tradewinds Hotel. Wanted to get the "uniform" pic as most men wear sarongs.
While planning this trip, the flight from Samoa to Apia was the most difficult and took me months to figure out. For one, they don't post flights online until it is much closer to the month to leave. Also, they fly certain days of the week. Talofa Airways got us to our destination in 25 minutes. We left at 11AM on February 8th and when we landed it was February 9th! We crossed the INTERNATIONAL TIME LINE!
Our pilot, with an Australian accent, looked like he was all of 18 years of age!
I met a lady on the plane that was a "CHIEF" she wished we were staying a day as she wanted us to spend the day in her home. Oddly enough, she lives in CA and her daughter lives in Milligan, NE. The plane was so loud. It was hard to hear. I asked how she became a chief and she said it is through bloodlines and heritage.
I wish I could have taken more pictures of the men & women of the Samoas. They are so kind, soft spoken and large, both men and women. The men often wear sarongs. A shop lady told me that after about 17-18 years of age, it is considered more formal. The women wear BRIGHTLY colored dresses and often sport a flower in their hair either real or artificial.
Long wait at the airport before we leave for Sydney @ 4:50PM . NE basketball vs Michigan. He always has High HOPES!
