On our way to Volcano National Park...YES! It is RAINING!
Short hikes today!
Mike likes these flat trails!
This is a BANYAN tree. They originally came from India, but Hawaii has a lot of them. They are a type of fig tree. The long ropes grow down to the ground. They can become quite a LARGE tree.
Mike is out exploring near our hotel this afternoon, Grand Naniloa Resort. (Doubletree Hilton) in Hilo. We are on the big island of Hawaii. Kona, to the West is much nicer, but a. long drive to the NP.
Mike was out exploring this afternoon, while I'm WRECKED! We went to bed around 3:35 AM CST last night, so a nap was necessary!
Tomorrow we are getting up at 5AM so that we can see the active lava. It has to be DARK.
Can you see the red fire? We will be heading back to the same look out point in the morning.
Looks very interesting! A once in a lifetime experience. Is it hot near the lava?
ReplyDeleteWe can't get very close. Zoomed in pictures. The nearby vents are warm and steamy though!
ReplyDeleteWow - active lava!
